FAT is short for file allocation table. And it's a file system which is designed for managing disks. The operating system uses it to locate files on a disk. FAT is a very old computer terminology. Compared with previous versions, FAT 32 increases the number of bits used to address clusters and also reduces the size of each cluster. The result is that it can support larger disks and better storage efficiency.
